Services provided by SVACA

Two local animal shelters were merged to create a larger organization. SVACA is a 24-hour animal shelter that provides animal care services in Mountain View and Palo Alto. The organization also works closely with Palo Alto's animal control offices. SVACA has a brand-new facility. The Palo Alto facility was constructed in the 1970s, and needs costly upgrades. Both shelters are dedicated to serving the same geographic area, and the new SVACA contract would give them more time to focus on animal-related crime.

How To

How to teach a cat to use the litter box

The litter boxes are great for keeping your pet's waste under control, but they can't be used well by cats. They're often too small (or just plain wrong) for them to get comfortable in, and they may end up smearing the mess around the floor and leaving it there.

To make sure you have the best chance of success when teaching your cat to use the litterbox, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. It is important that the cat can stand straight up inside the box.
  2. It is best to place it outside where your cat will go.
  3. Your cat should have access to water at all times, even if it's not possible. It will make him less anxious about using the box.
  4. You should avoid sudden movements and noises, especially if your cat is already used to being outside.
  5. Once he is comfortable with the idea, you can reward him with praise for using the box correctly. You might consider including treats in your reward, but these should be only given to him after he has done his business.
  6. Your cat shouldn't be forced to use the box.
  7. Be patient! Be patient! It may take several weeks for your cat to start using the box on a regular basis.
  8. If you notice any changes in your cat's behavior, such as aggression towards humans or animals, contact your veterinarian immediately. This could indicate something serious like a urinary tract infection or kidney disease.
  9. Keep your cat clean and tidy, especially around the litter box.
